The Mubaku Community Medical Centre has a remarkable story rooted in community support and a commitment to health care access. The journey began in 2018 when Max Akerman from Austria visited Mubako, a village near Murchison Falls National Park.
During his trip, he witnessed the community’s struggles with limited access to medical resources, which inspired him to take action. Upon returning home, Max and his family collaborated with the Mubaku Community Board to set up a small drug shop, which served both locals and tourists visiting the park.

In 2024, with further funding and support, Max expanded his efforts, enabling the establishment of a fully-equipped medical centre.
This new centre represents a significant improvement in healthcare availability for the community, providing essential services that were once difficult to access essential healthcare services for the Mubaku community and nearby regions.
In the same year, Uta Janenz, a German doctor, joined the effort by donating medical beds, while Octavian, a traveller from Spain, contributed computer equipment to support the centre’s operations.
Thanks to these contributions, the Mubaku Community Medical Centre now provides crucial healthcare services to the people of Buliisa and surrounding areas, making quality health services more accessible than ever.
